More about: Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE wins Popularizer of Science 2020 competition

We are pleased to inform that ŚFN has been awarded in the team category of the prestigious Popularizer of Science competition.

The Festival was selected among approximately 100 applications and 18 finalists nominated for the main prizes. The jury emphasized that ŚFN is ‘currently one of the largest science communication events in Poland and Europe, although it premiered as a small local initiative in 2016’.

Moreover, Upper Silesia has also won the Main Prize, i.e. the Popularizer of Science 2020 title, which has been awarded to Dr Jerzy Jarosz, Professor of the University of Silesia from the Institute of Physics at the University of Silesia, ŚFN Programme Director in 2016-2017. The competition jury appreciated his activity in numerous fields – since 1983, Prof. Jarosz has been giving lectures with experiment shows under the name of „Osobliwości Świata Fizyki” (Pecularities of the World of Physics), he has also been a long-term coordinator of the Children’s University of Silesia, as well as the Chair of Ogólnopolski Klub Demonstratorów Fizyki (Polish Nationwide Physics Demonstrators’ Club).

Popularizer of Science is the oldest and most prestigious competition in Poland, which awards scholars, media people, institutions and social activists who are passionate about sharing knowledge and revealing the secrets of modern science in an accessible way. The competition is organised by “Science in Poland” website of the Polish Press Agency and Ministry of Education and Science.

Apart from the team category, won by ŚFN, there were also prizes awarded in animator, institution and media categories, as well as two distinctions.  The list of all awarded parties is available HERE.
